ASB Report- August 17, 2023
Jenna Skavdahl
ASB President
17 August 2023
Position assessment:
Beginning last year, my first task as ASB president was to organize all of the polos and crewnecks, which were all ordered successfully and given to each student, except for a few students who haven’t gotten theirs yet(they are all in Morty’s office). There have been some complications with a few people’s polos, but they have all been taken care of or will be very shortly because they have just been brought to my attention. Starting in early July, I began meeting with Payton and Morty about the rest of the year and planning out the calendar in depth before school started. By doing this and attending many meetings with various other people, we are going into this year ahead ready to tackle each event as it comes up. I met with groups for link crew, renaissance, athletics, public relations, spirit, rally, and ASB to discuss a variety of topics. At Core Camp, I helped get everybody organized in the morning and made sure everyone was where they were supposed to be at all times throughout the weekend. In sessions, I learned a lot, shared and took advice from other presidents and delegates, and I wrote and gave a speech about leadership having no bounds at RHS, in front of all of Core Camp. We established our core principles and had many great discussions about the future of the year. I led the discussions about homecoming and every class established their theme. Core camp was a great experience and I enjoyed bonding as a class/exploring our jobs and creating a collaborative, productive environment. Also before the school year started, I created a presentation about expectations, advice, and general information to present with Payton at the Leadership Training Day on July 31. At pow wow, ASB worked the table to encourage students to vote for the homecoming theme and explain what ASB is to the student body. Additionally, I have completed the parade permit paperwork and communicated with Officer West to make sure everything is ready to go ASAP for homecoming so we don’t have to worry about it coming up. I planned the first day activity which included blowing up balloons to put at the front of the school, playing music, and handing out Marti Gras beads to the student body. This event really helped to boost morale in my opinion and I had so much fun with everyone being there. ASB worked on a separate project too, decorating and designing stickers for the class to remind them of purpose, the core principles, and other parts of leadership which are crucial to being successful and staying positive(the stickers are also super cute). I filled out the po for this paperwork and they were ordered by Morty. Finally, I have assisted with all things Club Rush, the BTSD, homecoming, and the rally. I have assisted anywhere I can, by finding paperwork to do, organizing specific details, writing announcements, and helping the other classes with anything they need. I have been checking in with all leads and members to make sure everything is going smoothly/assisting if needed. As meetings happen, I attend them and I do my best to assist when needed and take charge, but also allow people to take lead on some events.
Standing Committee:
This year, Gia ordered balloons for the class to use so that we can get rid of some of the older balloons which rip and pop easily. We chose Hailey to stand on the balloon crew for the freshman class, but I am hoping to change it up throughout the year so that all of the freshmen have the chance to serve on it at least once if they would like to. I have also learned how to close and open the helium tank so far. As for events, we have blown up 48 blue balloons for the handles on the bleachers for freshman orientation. Balloon Crew has also made two large balloon bundles for the first day of school which were attached to the welcome back sign. Finally, balloon crew blew up individual balloons for every leadership student to hand out during our “Thank you for lifting me up” activity. Coming up, we have to make balloon bundles before school on Monday, August 21 for the club rush rally.
I am also on the Academic Coordinator committee alongside Rylee, Kylie M, and Alizeh with Ximena as the lead. So far, we have met over the summer a few times to discuss the future of renaissance and revamp the program to better fit Ripon High School. We decided to rename it to Honor Roll/Dean’s list and we are still discussing other ways to alter the program to better serve Ripon High. I also attended a meeting to help with the planning of Link Crew Training day, Ximena definitely took lead on this one with her team, but Alizeh and I attended to help them out because we had experience with the position if needed. also, as a Link Crew Leader, meeting the freshman and helping them on the first day was great!
Finally, I am on the standing committee for the Mental Health Journal project. I am on a team with Gia, Elias, Claire, Alizeh, Alana, Spencer, Payton, Robin, and James. We are working to design a journal for students, by students that provides an outlet for students to reflect grow, and support their own mental health. Morty is a huge help in all of this, as she has written multiple journals. We are working on establishing our own themes to write/design based on our strengths/weaknesses(things that are relatable for students). We will continue to meet every Monday and get this done as soon as possible!
Special Committee:
So far, most committees have been created based on job, not many additional committees have been made. With that, the rally committee is composed of Devin(lead), Eric, Addyson, Elias, Ricky, Alizeh, and me. There is a lot less set up this year for the rally because we are not doing a large balloon arch and many people will be doing jobs before school or with their already decided job groupings/descriptions. With that being said, I have helped Devin with the procedure form, organizing specific jobs for people on the day of, and will decorate the freshman section of the gym. I have been checking in with the rally commissioners periodically to make sure they are ready to go with everything for the rally and have the script all worked out so they blow this first rally out of the water!
As for Coronation, I have the materials picked out and I have found the details of the cost/items I would like to get. I have spoken to Mrs.Ochoa about setting a meeting because she would like to review everything together and we are set to meet soon to discuss further details. I still have a long to do which includes getting the risers set with staff, establishing decoration committees, people to escort on the reveal, the tech to have the candidate rally, actually ordering all items(crowns, sashes, grand marshal materials, and reveal awards) and posters for the fence for each member of royalty. Most of these items can be done closer to the event, and I will begin to tackle most of them after club rush.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at Time of Meeting:
So far this month, Rylee and I have completed our assignment from Payton and established each other’s phone numbers, and made contact. When we were working on our professional websites, I helped Rylee before I had to leave class. I made sure to reach out after to make sure she was all sorted out in case there were any issues with the creation of her website. She is doing so well and figured everything out for her website too. I enjoyed talking to her in class and at Core Camp so far! I have loved getting to know Rylee better as we already knew one another because our brothers are friends. Rylee is so positive and is learning very quickly which I admire about her! She is doing great and I can’t wait to get to know her better throughout the rest of the year!
Concerns/Change:
One concern or change I have about this year so far is the class being able to keep a positive attitude. This is not the whole class, but a small few are quite negative about various issues this year. I think that this is an issue that I could be better about handling, especially because if we cut out the negativity and complaining early, it will likely not be a large part of our class later down the road.
Positive comment:
My positive comment goes out to the freshman class. They have done so well this year so far and have brought a new level of creativity to many new events! I think they are doing great working together and if there are any issues, they are sure to tell people so that problems are extinguished before they get bigger. I think many freshmen feel comfortable together which hopefully is foreshadowing a strong team to come!
With that, I also want to thank the rest of ASB! Gia, Alizeh, and Payton have done SO much and I am so grateful to have them in a team this year! Alizeh has put together the whole fashion show and this rally would not be anything without all of her hard work and dedication. I cannot thank her enough for everything she has done!
Core Principles:
Our core principles this year are; be impeccable, your puzzle piece matters, the beacon of empowerment, and evolve and grow with change. Thus far into the year, I have followed the core principles to the best of my abilities. As for being impeccable, I have tried my best to be transparent, on time, knowledgeable, and helpful to my class. I try my best to serve as a role model, which I understand can include keeping the class on task, which is something I can try to do more of and get better at(the one that I can improve on). I think I have embodied the “Your puzzle piece matters,” core principle by trying to talk to everybody in the class in some way or say hi in the halls. I know it may be small but just by making an effort, especially as a senior, it can make someone feel more heard and feel as though they belong more. The beacon of empowerment, I have embodied this core principle by trying my best to make everyone feel as though they are meant to take on leadership roles and ensure them help if they need help to do anything that they wish to accomplish. I have also worked to try to encourage my outside of leadership peers to take on leadership roles and help them succeed. Finally, Evolve and grow with change. I am very proud of the class and myself for this one. I think that despite there being some negative, new aspects, I think that this year has brought so much more good than bad. With the changes to the journal, ASB Meetings, class situation, etc, there are so many new ways to have a positive outlook which is huge for this class! We can always use these challenges as learning opportunities and chances to get better.
My Impact:
Thus far, I have tried my best to be more compassionate. I have been trying my best to help my peers while not making them feel unintelligent. I have been kinder and gentler with my words and tried hard to be more approachable. I have been able to impact the lives of others because I have noticed more people as me questions/for help outside of class and at cross country. By answering these questions and being a resource for students around campus, I have been of help to other students and hopefully helped them solve some problems they have been having!

ASB Report- September 27, 2023
Jenna Skavdahl
ASB President

Position Assessment:
The past few months have been very busy. I have been working to create committees for homecoming as it is rapidly approaching. I created committees like homecoming publicity, coronation, reveal rally, and parade clean up. I also have been working with coronation and Ochoa a lot to make sure coronation is going to go as smoothly as possible. I have completed many pos, written scripts, and made many schedules or notes to various people and myself. I have been busy with assigning publicity and making sure everything is in order to be sent to Morty as it needs to be posted. (I will expand more in committees section)
Aside from coronation, I have been trying my best to help the freshman class with the dance and their homecoming assignments. I found a DJ that didn’t work out, but I have advised them to continue to meet with Perez and get everything ready to go because life is about to be very busy. I have also been helping out my class with the lip sync in trying to attend each dance practice I can and doing other class assignments.
Standing Committee :
For the balloon crew, Morty has ordered a new tank of helium and we are going to be making balloon bundles for the classes for the candidate rally. I ordered balloons for the pillars that the pipe crew has been working on building also for the rally.
The mental health journal committee has not been very busy, after a little break, we got back together on the 18th to go over our journal chapter descriptions. I have started my pages for the journal which I am very excited about!
Special Committee :
Coronation has been a very large responsibility lately. I started early in meeting with Ochoa and ordering all of the sashes and other items from Andersons and Amazon. I think that the items are great. We had some issues with the sash, but we had to exceed the budget set on the PO and it ended up coming in time and will be perfect for our Grand Marshal. The committees were pretty straightforward. I made the mistake of not asking someone else to be the committee lead for publicity. I should have asked Mina, but I ended up just doing it. The good thing is though that everyone has made their publicity and it doesn’t have to be worried about anymore. I had been meeting with Ochoa to talk about the other details of coronation including the decorations, rally, and reveal. I wrote a script for our MCs to read (Ochoa, Yonan, Emme, and Elias). I also wrote the script for the Grand Marshal reveal and I am working on all of the final details for the introduction that will be read on the night of coronation. I designed the posters that will say the candidate names and I have made the committee assignments which include decorations, golf cart decorations, riser set up, and walking items out to the candidates. We are working to schedule a meeting for the committee to meet and go over all assignments next week.
The Coronation Court Reveal Rally has been interesting so far. The script is finally done and will be read by Ricky and Ava. I have been working on finding the teachers which is proving to be very difficult. I am aiming to have 2 teachers per day. I have asked numerous teachers in person and I have emailed numerous teachers. Right now, I am down to trying to find 6 teachers. Many have cooperated, which I am very grateful for. For this rally, we set a plan to decorate before school starting at 7. Claire and I will be released midway through 4th period to finalize everything. We will be giving items to the students who get on court and we will be giving the sash to the Grand Marshal as she is announced. I have written my speech and I have been practicing it to be prepared for the speech on the day of.
HOCO publicity is all done. We have many instagram posts ready and made as well as announcements for various events and things to watch out for/reminders. I will be sending reminders to Morty to post each day so we will be sure to keep the student body up to date. Everyone on this committee did very well and everything was turned in on time and all looks very good!
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting:
This month, Rylee and I went out to lunch at Coffee House to complete our assignment for Payton. We talked about school, leadership, and other stuff and I had a great time getting to know Rylee more. As for our goals, Rylee wants to get better at public speaking and I personally want to get better at lowering my screen time. Together, we decided we want to be better students this year and within the next two years, apply to college and get in! SInce we both do track, we decided we wanted to improve in the 200m and 400m races and win sections for the third year in a row for the girls team! Finally, we talked about college and what we want to do after high school. This was interesting because we have similar goals and I didn’t know many things about her before we went to lunch.
Concerns/Change:
I am concerned about the amount of people who are relaxed when it comes to deadlines and communicating. I have noticed that many members of this class struggle with having urgent assignments and other things that need to be done. Granted, it is not everybody, but some people I am worried about a lack of attention to timing. With a large event like homecoming, I think this should be something we need to work on. This can’t be taught with a lesson though, so I am working on communicating with some people about getting things done and working as a team to be able to accomplish more with efficiency. I understand people are busy too, which is always taken into consideration.
Positive comment:
This month, I would like to give a positive comment to the senior class officers. Although I might be biased, I totally appreciate everything they have done for our class and they are doing great with hoco and class t-shirts. They all seem to be managing stress really well too which is shocking regarding how much pressure they have on them. Also, the dance practices have been going much better than last year which I am really proud of because that is no easy task!
Core Principles:
I have tried my best to live up to our core values. I have tried my best to be dependable, available for help and questions, while still getting all of my stuff done for this class and my other classes. I think I have to work on the Core Principle “Evolve and Grow with Change”. Recently, I have been comparing many things to the way they were last year. This is unfortunate and I need to fix this mindset because the fact is, that isn’t how it is now! Comparing two years that are completely different is not valuable and I need to get out of the mindset in order to better serve the class and the student body.
My Impact:
I have tried my best to make a positive impact on my classmates this year in leadership. I realize that I do not have to be perfect, but I have tried to be honest with the class in things to do and the seriousness that needs to be brought to events. With that, I have still done my best to have a positive attitude and speak with intention to people in the class. I still laugh and talk to people with humor- which I think brightens the mood especially if people are stressed or overwhelmed. I am trying to be ambiguous this year, balancing both positivity and hard work, which I hope is rubbing off on the class and making leadership a more inviting, efficient class. I have also tried to be a listening ear for people if they need to talk about issues within their class, their job, or just in general about life.

Position assessment:
Since Homecoming, my job has slowed down, yet sped up. There is less hustle and bustle, but I am still very busy with projects and class assignments. Immediately after homecoming, I hosted students from Kyoto. This was such a fun experience and I am very grateful for it. After these busy weeks, I was ready to settle down and get back into a more normal routine. I wrote all of my military cards for the assignment in class.
In regards to the younger generation, ASB was very busy. ASB attended the District Meeting with all of the elementary school’s Presidents and Vice Presidents. This was a great opportunity to connect with younger students and see how they are doing. We also hosted a leadership development day which was a really big success. ASB was responsible for getting all the red and white paper ready. I have attended both Cite Council Meetings this year so far as well.
After this, we began working on the applications for CASL and NATSTUCO. As ASB president, I was responsible for writing a letter to the board about how we improve the connection with the student body and community. We got these applications totally submitted after attending a meeting with Mr. Rangel and formally asking for his help in writing a letter of recommendation for both applications. We also reviewed and checked all of the application parts that were written by various groups of students in the class.
We also began working on Winterfest and other projects, such as mock interviews, etc. As for coronation for Winterfest, I have ordered the sashes for the court and “Spirit Champions”. I placed the order early enough that I am hoping it will all come in on time from Etsy. The only thing I have to do in regards to the rally and coronation is place an order with Main Street Floral (the po is done and signed), and talk to rally about how we want the reveal of court to go. The set up of the table and flowers, etc, should remain pretty similar to the other coronation ceremonies we have done. For mock interviews, I have created a list of jobs that I would like to do and now it is just a matter of getting in contact with someone and setting up the final details.
I completed the assignments due for Spencer’s elder project, Warm and Fuzzy week decorating, and the VP project for Bethany Home. I have enjoyed doing these activities that benefit people other than myself. I have also completed the final project for leadership and bought my Secret Santa gift.
During Dude Be Nice week, I was responsible for announcing the Dude. I practiced the speech with Rally and I practiced it enough to know what I was going to say while not messing it up. The Dude was so deserving of the recognition and I am very pleased with how it all turned out.
Finally, throughout the planning of Warm and Fuzzy week, I served as a mentor and guide for the freshman class. I tried to let them take control of the event, as I have trust in them and I think they did a wonderful job. By allowing them to take the reins and only step in when needed, I allowed them to practice management, responsibility, and deal with the pressure that comes with being in charge of a spirit week. I served as a mentor for them by answering questions and stepping in when they needed help and assistance. I made one post for them to increase publicity and I constantly checked in with them in regards to the event. I have been helping them with their request for the shopping cart moving into Winterfest, and I have been working with them on the procedure forms they are required to complete.
Standing Committee:
Balloon crew over the last few months was responsible for the “Thank you or lifting me up” activity during Dude. Be Nice Week. That same morning, we were responsible for making 70 individual balloons or girls league to give to the dude. This was a very big morning and we got started at 7 to blow up over 200 balloons total. Additionally, for the balloon crew, I have helped work to get the balloon pillars ready for the yearbook rally and I have ordered 8 bags of brand new white and red balloons to better prepare us for winterfest and future rallies and events.
As for the mental health journal committee, I have been present at mostly every meeting, except for one, and I have completed all of my parts for the journal. I am excitedly awaiting the arrival of the first version which should arrive shortly.
Special Committee:
This was not an official committee, but I helped clean up and set up winter formal with the sophomore class. We started at 8am and I left around 10, then we cleaned up after the dance as well.
I was also a team leader for the application for the OLPA. I helped facilitate discussions with my team and wrote a letter regarding involvement and school culture within the school/community. Additionally, as a team, ASB normally requested Mr. Rangel wrote his letters of recommendation and we completed a thank you card for his effort in the application process. In being in the lead of these projects, I reviewed each application and made sure it was good to submit. I applied for Meet the Pros and will be awaiting response from CASL to see if I have been accepted.
Finally, on the election committee, I have attended meetings and began preparing for next year by reviewing the application packet and getting prepared for this long process.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting:
Rylee and I are getting along great. She is doing very well and working on link crew/renaissance activities. I have really enjoyed doing Payton’s activities with her monthly. We have many mutual friends so it is very easy to talk to her and I find it really fun to see how she is doing in school and in leadership. When working on the door decorating activity, she was super helpful in coming up with ideas for Mr. Derrick’s door poster since she has had him. She is very artistic and I enjoyed being able to work on this project with her. Recently, we have been talking about the speeches that we have to complete in leadership and in english classes.
Concerns/Change that you would like addressed:
One concern I have is people in this class not showing up for each other. Even though it couldn’t be required, when the sophomores asked for help to decorate, I am disappointed in how few people showed up to support them. I understand that many people are busy, but I hope that they understand how far giving up 1-2 hours can go for someone else. This is also a super busy time, and I get it, but I think that we should all work on thinking about the whole project and other people before we think about ourselves in everything.
Positive comment:
This month, I’d like to recognize the sophomores for their work on formal. The event was well done and looked great! Although there have been a few negative comments, they should be proud of all the work they put in and the large dance they organized!
My second positive comment goes to Ximena. She is working so hard and it really shows. Ximena has been taking on a lot and has done everything with such grace. She is such a selfless leader and I am very proud of her for all of her work in link crew on the hot chocolate at the night rally and study buddy nights. She is doing great and I am excited to see where she goes in the future.
Core Principles:
Out of the core principles, I think I could improve on evolving and growing with change. I sometimes have a hard time changing habits and changing the way things are done if they had been done one way for a while. On my last eval, people marked me down for this so I think I can work on being more open minded and adaptable. By changing the way I think about things and opening my mindset, I think it can help me also improve my patience and understanding. I am hoping to work on my short temper and I think that by evolving and growing with change, I can also practice patience!
My Impact:
Today, I have changed the world by trying to be a positive light for the people in my life. AT my house, I have worked on being a better big sister and helping my brother with his speech and his math homework. I have also been trying to be a better listener for my mom and dad. In my school community, I have been working more diligently in class and I have been trying to help my peers when we are all studying for AP Stats.

ASB Report- January 30, 2024
Jenna Skavdahl
ASB President
30 January 2024
Position Assessment:
During the month of January, I have focused very heavily on Winterfest and getting ready for elections/interviews for next year’s class of leadership. For a while now, Spencer, Devin, Payton, Morty, and I have been working on developing sets of questions for interviews. We have also been strategizing how to conduct interviews, speeches, and other things related to the process of putting together next year’s leadership class. We meet every Tuesday. As of now, we have completed the schedule and questions. I turned in POs for both lunch and dinner, meat market, and Masumis. We are just waiting for those to get back to us but everything should be pretty set. We will continue to meet until the interviews actually happen. We need to complete 8th-grade questions.
As for Winterfest, I was responsible for the coronation. Back in November, I ordered sashes and flowers. In January, we had them all set and ready for the Rally on January 19 and Game on January 25. I also stepped in to help with the sophomore poster and helped consistently with the senior projects and class competitions. I dressed up every day for Winterfest and enjoyed my time with my friends and the rest of the school.
Next week, we have Encore as well and I completed a PO for Costco pizza for the class. ASB will be bringing fruit, etc, and we will be asking everyone to bring their own drink.
I have finished phase 1 of my elder project and I still need to complete the actual project and the presentation portion.
As for the challenge, I have made all preparations for all the docs. I am waiting to put people in charge of the challenge until after the elections are over. I am excited to be able to put people in charge of different projects. I am also planning to have mentors for each person who is in charge of something as well(preferably leaders from last year's groups will be the mentors for this year.) Hopefully, the presentation will go well too upon Morty’s return to class.
Standing Committee:
On January 19, 2024, the Balloon crew blew up 78 balloons, 50% red and 50% white. They were tied to the handrails and looked quite nice. We then moved them to the student section after the rally was over. We have plenty of red and white balloons to last through the next event we have.
The mental health advocates made the final touches on our journal and it is now live on Amazon! We will continue to work on ideas for publicity and the debate about social media, basically the next steps.
The coronation committee has not been needed to work since we completed the rally. With the help from the class officers and balloon crew, coronation was all good for the candidates!
Special Committee:
I have signed up for the Almond Blossom Parking session and my dad signed up too so that I don’t have to dress up for ASB Meetings or do a WAS:). We also completed planning fair wells and the rest of the schedule for the rest of the year. My praises are complete for upcoming days too.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting:
Rylee and I get along so well. We can always talk and check in. She is really good at communicating and we have completed all of the projects due for Payton’s mentorship assignments. Being able to make a dream board was so fun because we were able to talk about the different photos we added and what we hope 2024 brings!
Concerns/Change:
One concern I have for this class is the class climate we will have after elections. Naturally, attitudes will change, but I hope that is not for the worst for this year. If it gets tense, hopefully that is quick and passes so we can continue to focus on this year.
Positive Comment:
My positive comment this month is for the Junior class. They have such a strong class and the class officers did so well during Winterfest. Also, I would like to give a positive comment to Spencer for getting here early to play music before school. His music taste so good and always being here on time or earlier is so convenient and very helpful.
Core Principles:
I think I have done an okay job at embodying the core principles of our class. Evolving and growing with change has been something I have been working on, especially with the WF Rally on January 19th, I helped Ava Brocchini work on the script and really helped with the senior poster so that we could evolve as different challenges came up. On the contrary unfortunately, with so many things going on, I think I have been struggling to empower others. I have really been focusing on myself and getting things done rather than empowering others to do better. I haven’t been very trusting which is also related to being able to empower others at the same time. I will be working on being more empowering and encouraging others to do their best while trusting everything will work out.
My Impact:
Recently I have been working on being more outgoing and encouraging to the beginners in track. At conditioning, there are a lot of new runners who ask questions and need some help. I remember being just like them and I know how helpful the upperclassmen were to me. I have been doing my best to be a role model and someone they feel comfortable asking questions because the last thing I would want to do is make track somewhere people feel unsafe or scared.

ASB Report- March 21, 2024
Jenna Skavdahl
ASB President
March 22, 2024
Position assessment:
Throughout the months of February and March, I have been working on preparing for the very busy last few months. As a member of the election committee, in early February we held elections for class members. The committee spent the Saturday interviewing and eating. The week before and after interviews, we listened to speeches from ASB, Rally, and Class Candidates. I was responsible for introducing the ASB/Rally Speeches and the Freshmen Class Speeches. As for 8th grade interviews, I was responsible for emailing all of the 8th graders and communicating with them about the time, location, and date of their interview. The election committee along with Sofia made some tough decisions but we decided on the incoming freshman class and were happy with the results. For this day, I filled out the PO for food and my mom volunteered to pick it up. Thank you mom! I think that Sofia will have a solid class and I am happy with the work we did as the fearsome fivesome. Also, as a member of that group, we revamped evals and are beginning to work on job descriptions.
I have also been working on planning the Banquet with the rest of ASB. I have the final chair count for students and parents and I have been working on finalizing the PO for the pens we hope to hand out. Other than that, we have the date and time and ASB is having a meeting on Wednesday to finalize most of the other details. I have voted on the awards and I chose who I wanted to give the Selfless Leader Award to. I am working on my write up for that currently.
At lunch, I have also been attending meetings with next year’s ASB crew to establish their calendar and help with any information they may need. Payton and I are there to assist as needed. Also at lunch, we will start having meetings about the Modesto Leadership conference because Payton, Claire, Lucia, Allie, Morty and I will be presenting there, so we will begin to get prepared.
Also within these months, I began diving deep into the Challenge and getting it all planned out. Back in January, I organized all of the docs to send out to the class, so I sent them out and let people know what they were responsible for. Also in January, I made the slides presentation and designated slides to each group but they were responsible for their own slides. Each group was pre-made and the team leads/mentors were figured out. I tried to keep it organized, for the most part it was but there were still some hiccups, as there always will be. We received great feedback and have begun working on making the necessary changes. This includes… Fixing some POs, rescheduling the gift to the community to see if we can find dates that work, making a spreadsheet of the 8th graders to write letters to, and calculating how many each one will do. We will also be making publicity for the End of the Year Rally that will take place at lunch on May 17. Hopefully we will have a few work days to finish up the details and get going on setting this plan into action. Along with planning the week of the challenge, I completed the mentorship assignments and the other work that was assigned, such as ABCs, letter, coloring, and the 5 dysfunctions assignment.
As a senior in leadership and a member of ASB, I have to complete an Elder Project. For the community service aspect of my project, I am about ¾ths done with it. My project is that every week, I update the bulletin board outside of the attendance office with a female figure from history and positive notes for the student body. So far I have recognized Rosalind Franklin, Sojourner Truth, and Malala Yousafzai. Next week, I will recognize the final woman and post information about Juana Ines De La Cruz. I did this to honor women who have been remarkable throughout history and celebrate their accomplishments during Women’s History Month. Additionally, The positive notes serve as a good reminder for the student body that kindness truly does start with them and small actions can go a long way. Each week when I go to post new information, I am pleased when more notes are taken and there is more kindness out there in the world than there was before. I have enjoyed this project and I am grateful I have had the opportunity to give back in this way to the student body.
Finally, 8th grade day was a day in which the help from leadership seniors was needed and I was responsible for helping set u[ the lunch. Although nearly all of the work was done by Ximena and Morty, I still assisted in any way I could by helping transport food, set up the tables, informing the other seniors of what was going on, and helping to totally clean up the baseball field after it was all said and done. I really enjoyed being able to help out and getting involved in this/getting to know the kitchen staff are both experiences that I am very grateful for.
Standing Committee :
Balloon crew was responsible for making balloons for 8th grade welcome day. That morning, we arrived at school early and blew up 96 balloons for the handles of the rails. Thankfully, Ximena ordered balloons for us and we have plenty of orange balloons for future events. For balloon crew, we have also been working on spirit bombs. We made two, one for Sergeant Pacheco and Mr. Felver.
Special Committee:
For special committees, I signed up for Love Ripon and I am looking forward to completing my community service. Additionally, I helped cut out the Valentine’s hearts and hung them up on the morning of February 14th.
Additionally, my dad and I signed up and completed our shifts for Almond Blossom Parking. What a great experience! We both learned many new things and had so much unexpected fun in the process, all while raising money for leadership! Yay!
Finally, another committee I am on is the Gift to Community. I have been working on the PO for food and supplies for that Costco run. I also assumed responsibility for the letters to 8th graders project. For this, I will be telling the class that they will all be writing 6 letters to the incoming 8th graders. I will be in contact with the 8th grade teachers about delivery for the letters.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting:
The mentorship assignment these past few months have gone very well. I colored the coloring book and wrote a letter for Rylee. It was nice to be able to write a letter to her expressing my gratitude and appreciation for her. In return, she wrote me a nice letter that highlighted a lot of our shared interests. She is someone I enjoy talking to and I am grateful that these mentorship assignments have brought us closer together. Rylee and I look forward to working closer together in track as well because now we both run the same events!
Concerns/Change:
One concern and change I have for this class is that people are just done caring. This worries me because we have a lot to get done and fewer people seem to be coming to class ready to learn and get work done. I can tell because attendance is dropping, people are not focused when it is time to work, and when students are asked to do things, they don’t do them with ANY hustle. I appreciate when students want to work hard, but forcing them to do things is not pleasant by any means. I think that the discussion on Tuesday in class will be of great benefit for everyone…
Positive comment:
This month, my positive comment goes to Gia, Sofia, Justin, and Evangeline. Gallery of the Arts was a BEAUTIFUL night! I love this event and I think that they did an excellent job organizing and executing this event. Especially with so many other things going on in their worlds, this was so impressive and I am so grateful for them.
Core Principles:
One area that I think I need to work on is “evolve and grow with change”. Again, I am reflecting and realizing that I struggle with accepting changes. Unfortunately, I have noticed my temper getting shorter again. I normally lash out when things get changed and the plan changes from what we had already decided on. To help with this, I am going to work on taking deep breaths and making solutions for issues when they arise.
My Impact:
One way that I have impacted the world is by celebrating World Recycling Day at my house. I have encouraged my parents to bring reusable bags to work and we have all tried to slowly eliminate single-use plastic consumption. We have started to be more aware of consumption and been more aware of the impact we have on the planet. Even though I started this at my house, I am grateful that they have been willing enough to join in. Also, as I explore college, I have decided that if I go to ASU, I will stay in the Environmental Sustainability dorm, which will further my impact on the planet and make the world a better place.
