ASB Report 08/31/2021

Link Crew & Renaissance Assistant

Position Assessment: This year so far has been so much busier than last year. This is technically been my first time ever in a fully/modified year of in-person high school. This year, I have been working both on class projects, school wide events, and gatherings pertaining to just my job in with class. As a sophomore class, we have decided on the Homecoming theme, for our class, and participated in Core Camp. We have also represented the student body by cutting out, and writing names of every sophomore in hopes to make the student body more eager to attend the Neon Back to School Dance. The sophomore class officers were in charge of ordering, and designing the class t-shirts, so unlike last year, I did not help as much in that area. I did however try my best to assist in decorating the table, and offering to assist in any way to the officers. For the entire school, I have participated in organizing and executing of Club Rush, and the Back to School Dance. Club Rush was a successful event, put on by individual clubs and leadership in general. During Club Rush, I ran the Environmental Advocacy table, as well as helped with posters, decorating class tables, and sticking up the class names. Finally, as a Link Crew and Renaissance Assistant, I have participated and organized in Back to School Night, Freshman Orientation, Renaissance Sign-Ups, and I have ordered a new set of cards for Renaissance next quarter. First, every member of Link Crew attended a 3 hour training session with Jill Mortensen about the expectations, and basic training of what would happen at Freshmen Orientation. As an officer, I made the groups of students and officers, and assigned the group numbers, I also worked with Gabbi Ilardi and Jenaveve Alberts to make all of the name tags for every freshman, and officer attending the event. We also made over 300 bags of Jelly Beans for the incoming freshmen class as part of a project, connected to the Jelly Bean Video. After training and the preparation, I attended the Freshman Orientation. I assisted in laying out name tags, setting up the tables, and basic set up (posters, balloons, and handing out name tags etc.). During the event, I helped lead a group of about 17 freshman around campus and gave them a tour along with the other leaders in my group. We played Ice Breakers and games. After the event was over, I was in the video about Renaissance with Gabbi and Jenaveve as well. We filmed, and helped make any adjustments with Derek Nguyen, the technology commissioner. After Orientation, link crew and renaissance had a small wave of peace, then we started working on Back to School Night. As a member and officer of link crew, I took attendance of the leaders that were present and I helped parents find their students' classrooms until the event ended around 8:00 PM. I have assisted or made many social media posts about class t-shirts, events, and Link Crew/Renaissance Events as well. Finally, this week Gabbi, Jenaveve and I are working on renaissance sign ups for the fourth quarter of last year. I made a post about the event, and the video we made about signing up was posted to the ASBofRiponHighSchool's instagram page. For next quarter, and when we hand out the pins/Block Rs, I made a Purchase Order to order new Gold and Red cards as a reward for students who achieved a 3.0-4.0+ GPA last year during the 4th quarter.
Standing Committee: This year, I am apart of Link Crew and Renaissance, I believe that Link Crew is a Committee, we have assisted at Back to School Night, Freshmen Orientation, and other small events, such as various trainings and group bonding activities. Some of our projects that we are planning on executing are letters to the freshmen, and a study night later in the year. We are also responsible for 8th Grade Day, which takes place in February of the upcoming year.
Special Committee: So far, into this year, we have planned a Back to School Dance. For the dance, I was put into the special committee for dance decorations. I was going to be responsible for assisting in decorating before the dance, and assisting in any way, depending on what the committee leaders, Naomi, Avery, Emma, and Anthony needed. For Club rush, there was not a committee, but I assisted in taping posters up around the campus and taking them own after the event had passed.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting: With the new addition of the mentorship program in class, I have been able to connect with many more people that I probably never would've before. I got partnered up with Gia Grewal. Which is quite convenient. Her little bother is the same age as my brother, and they are good friends. Oddly, I have never talked to her or her sister at all. I took this as an opportunity to become close friends with both of the girls. With the mentorship program, I was able to talk to Gia outside of school and in classes that we have together. After the buddy system was established, Gia, Sofia, our brothers, and I went to the movies and got to hangout at my house as friends, not necessarily classmates. It was a great experience and I got to know a lot about Gia personally. In class, everyday, in Medical Terminology, I try to talk to Gia about her life, and we have conversations about school, friendships, and leadership. I have found that just talking to Gia more and more makes it easier to work together professionally. We have made plans to spend time together again this week at lunch, and walking home from school at the end of this week. In class, during the workday, I tried my best to assist her with her ASB report, and another school work she needed assistance with. Finally, in talking to Gia, I have discovered that we have a lot in common. We both want to go into the medical field after high school and we have some mutual friends. I have enjoyed getting closer with Gia, and I am looking forward to the rest of high school having her as a friend.
Concerns: One concern I have this year after completing the first quarter, is that the freshmen seem to be staying to themselves and not branching out as much. I can see myself contributing to this problem, and I need to be making more of an effort to talk to other members of the class and connect with the freshmen. But, I am worried that there will become a divide with the freshmen and the rest of the class.
Positive Comment: Last year in leadership, I had friends in the class. I would talk to a few of the other freshmen frequently, but nobody I would necessarily talk to extensively outside of the class. This year, I have found that I have many more friends within the class that I consider better friends than most. Gideon Waters is new to the program this year, and he is the Technology Commissioner Assistant. Within the span of this year, Gideon and I have become friends and I really value his friendship in the class and in other classes as well. Gideon is now someone I trust, and I truly do consider him a good friend. This all happened because of Leadership, and I am so grateful that this year, I was able to branch out and try to meet new people and make lasting friendships.
Change: One change I think I would like to see would be the creation of committees for certain events. This idea came from Kade Nelson's idea in class but I really agree with it. I think that for homecoming, the students in leadership should divide themselves up into teams, for example, posters, which would mean making them, then a different committee could be responsible for hanging them and taking them down after the event is over. I think this would make everything go smoothly, and it would ensure that everyone would have a sense of ownership more than just helping where they might be needed during an event.
My Impact: I have changed the world, or our campus by trying to talk to people and being more open minded. This year, I have had many opportunities to talk to people that I wouldn't before and I am trying to take advantage of it. I have tried to make connections with he freshmen on the cross country team, and I have leaders to talk to people more easily even if I don't know them very well, or at all. Finally, outside of school, I have enrolled in another year of working with YouthForEnvironmentalLiteracy, which is a program run by the San Joaquin County of Education to teach students about the environment, and what we can do at our schools to better the world and help the environment/teach students more about the health of our planet.

ASB Report 10/14/21
Jenna Skavdahl
Link Crew & Renaissance Commissioner Assistant
10-14-21
Position Assessment:
In the months of September and October, leadership has been incredibly busy with homecoming, rallies, and dances. For Renaissance, Gabbi Illardi, Jennaveve Alberts and I completed the first round of renaissance pins and Block Rs. Before the process started, we began by ordering more pins, Block Rs, and Red/gold cards. I completed a purchase order for these supplies and we got them ordered from the ASB account. We completed the organization and distribution within 2 weeks. During the project, there was a slight mishap with freshmen signing up, but we checked all of the forms and rosters and got everything situated. We are preparing for the second quarter, which involves the whole school instead of only the sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
For the sophomore class, I participated in the night rally, by going to every practice and performing at the rally. In addition, I helped decorate the sophomore class section. As for homecoming, I, along with everyone else, was incredibly busy. I helped my class by spending all weekend before working on the float for the parade and helped throughout the week after school as well. We completed the poster over the weekend too, and we set it all up Monday morning. The sophomore class came in second for the poster competitions, only losing to the senior class. On Thursday, the sophomore team, including myself, came to school early to set up for the window decorating contest. We made our window Fantasyland themed, sticking to our theme for the entire week. The initial idea was there, however, when putting together the window, the execution did not go to plan. We came in 4th for that competition. Finally, during the parade, I helped put on some final touches and walked with the sophomore class alongside the float. We set up the football field, and homecoming was officially over.
For ASB as a whole, I was able to lend assistance during the Back to School Dance. Since it had been rescheduled, the dance fell in September, not August. Either way, I assisted in putting up streamers and other decorations before, donating a case of water to be handed out during the dance, and I helped clean up after the dance concluded.
Standing Committee:
For both of my positions within Link Crew and Renaissance, I have helped with the distribution of Renaissance supplies, and the organization of the event. I am still involved with link crew, but there have not been any events in the recent months.
Special committee:
As for special committees, I have helped during homecoming with poster making, decorations, the sophomore float, poster, and window decorations. For the back to school dance, BTSD, I assisted in decorations before and after the event.
Mentorship Evaluation:
Over the last two months, Gia and I have spent lots of time together, and I have helped her with numerous projects and paperwork. She has also helped me stay more organized, and we have bonded in our Medical Terminology class. We are both in Scrubs club, so I see her there as well. I have genuinely enjoyed talking to her about other classes, her friends, and teachers we have both had. Gia and I both took the same classes last year, so it is easy to bond over that topic. In addition, her sister, Sofia is also in our Medical Terminology period, so all three of us talk about sports at the high school, and leadership. We are making plans to go out to lunch one day in the near future and spend more time outside of school together as well. Gia has been such an amazing partner and reliable friend the last two months and I am very proud of all she has accomplished throughout homecoming.
Concerns:
One slight concern I have for the class is the lack of communication among the students. Some students in the sophomore class had a difficult time reaching one another and knowing what was going on with events/ showing up because they were not checking messages or emails. However, this is just within the sophomore class.
Positive Comment:
My positive comment goes out to the sophomore class, although we had some drama in the past with the Night Rally, we all moved on past that and continued to work together. Planning and getting ready for homecoming really helped our team get back to working as normal again.
Change:
One change I would like to see would be the seating chart, I think that we should be more encouraged or put in assigned seating weekly to change things up a bit, I have noticed a little but that the same people, including myself, have been sitting with the same people and it could start to look cliquey again.
My Impact:
I have made a difference in the world by being more inclusive in cross country. Instead of only talking to my immediate friends on the team, I have tried to talk to the quieter members on the team. I have also made a difference by collecting the recycling my family accumulates and taking the bottles and cans into the recycle center with my dad and turning them in for money to save or donate in the future. This helps both my community and environment.

ASB Report 12/09/21
Jenna Skavdahl
Link Crew/Renaissance Assistant
12/09/21
Posistion Assessment:
Throughout the months of November and December, link crew and renaissance, as well as being part of the sophomore class have been incredibly busy. With link crew, there has not been too much happening physically. I have been working with Gabbi Illardi and Jenaveve Alberts to plan Study Buddy Night, which is taking place on December 14th. I started with helping organize the location and writing the email which went out to the school, staff, and parents. We are further planning the Purchase Order for snacks supplied at the event, and the resources/staff needed to make the event run smoothly. As part of Renaissance, we worked across the last three weeks to start and finalize the first quarter renaissance handout. Before Thanksgiving break, we worked on checking every google form response and making sure each student had the grades that they said they did. After the forms were checked, we started to make bags, before and during the break. Over break, we finished all of the gold cards, complete with names, pins, labels, and tickets/cards. The red cards were still left. The first day back from break, Gabbi and I organized the rooms, and Jenaveve finished the red cards. We finally handed them all out and got every student sorted, other than about 4 students in total, which were resolved by Friday the 3rd of December.
As for the sophomore class, we have been very busy with Winter Formal, Warm and fuzzy week, and other class assignments. For Winter formal, the class officers didn’t request too much help, but I went Saturday the 4th to help set up, then the 5th to help clean up after the dance. Also on the 5th, I was a team leader for the door wrapping. We completed door wrapping a few hours later. Finally, I have been working on completing the Final for the fall semester and working on organizing my website with book study and mock interviews coming up shortly.
Standing committee: I am a part of Link crew as a standing committee, and we are quickly approaching the Study Buddy Night, which is our next event. We will also be making postcards for every freshman very soon.
Special Committee: As for my special committees, I helped set up the Winter Formal, and I helped yearbook during Dude be Nice week during their photo booth, which was held at lunch. I helped Ethan Pierretti take pictures of the participants. I was also on a special committee to collect coins at lunch for Blanket Drive with Briana Alvares.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting:
Gia Grewal and my mentorship is going fantastically well! Gia and I grew significantly closer by joining the soccer team. I, unfortunately, did not continue soccer, but while I was on the team for two weeks, Gia and I were able to talk and hang out much more than only at school. Aside from bonding at soccer, Gia and I have talked almost every day in Medical Terminology, and at leadership. Gia and I went out to lunch as well, to debrief and talk about anything. I have been so happy to be spending more time with Gia as the year progresses, and I am glad that we are genuinely friends, and that she is someone I can talk to outside of school, not only in leadership. Finally, Gia and I are planning on going to lunch again, for a second time on Tuesday, December 7th.
Concerns: One concern I have for this year, is about the lack of communication between the sophomore officers, and the rest of the sophomores in Leadership. Most of the time, members of the officer team communicate clearly, however with some events, such as winter formal, it was difficult to know if they needed help, and what the rest of the class could do to assist them further. I am more than happy to help with all events, I would just need to be informed about what is happening to effectively do so.
Positive Comment: I would like to leave three positive comments this ASB meeting, the first one goes to the Sophomore officers for all of their hard work and dedication with Warm and Fuzzy week, Winter Formal, they have been incredibly busy, and they deserve recognition. Second, I would like to give a positive comment to the Vice Presidents for their impressive organization during the coin wars/ blanket drive. Finally, I think Gabbi Ilardi has done a great job teaching so far with Renaissance, and the events we do with our position, I have been well informed, and I now know what to do, she has been a great mentor so far into the year!
Change:
One change I would like to see is better accountability and follow-through within link crew and more patients among the student body for renaissance.
My Impact: I have changed the world today, and every day, by choosing to walk to and home from school, instead of getting a ride. This helps the environment, by not releasing carbon emmissions, and helping with the cleanliness of our planet, and community.

Position Assessment:
Throughout the months of December and January I have been very busy. Almost immediately after the last ASB meeting, Warm and Fuzzy Week occurred, in which I did my best to help where I was needed. I helped put up the holiday tree for the Environmental Advocacy.
Almost as quickly as break had started, January came up and the Sophomore officers began planning for Winterfest. Although I am a commissioner assistant, and fall under the “commissioner” category of the class, I tried my best to be as active as possible during the “winterfest time”. I assisted my class officers by going to Spencer Redula’s house the Monday before Winterfest started and I helped put some of the parts for our poster together for a few hours. Then, the week-of, I was at school early every day to help set up each different day/event.
I also completed my civil service duty and attended the December Board Meeting on December 13th, 2021. It was interesting to see how the meeting was organized, and how the public saw certain protocols.
The first week back, renaissance began pushing out publication for Renaissance Sign-Ups, which then began the last week of January. Currently, we have made the lists of current students’ grades and who all filled out the google form., and made nametags for every incoming freshman. I have designed the t-shirts for link crew (for 8th gradfe day) and filled out the PO as well. Finally, for link crew we have been busy planning 8th grade day and have gone thropugh the interview process and collected every applicant's application. We have also started making the bags with ACE tickets, and gold/red cards. Finally, for renaissance, we are planning to get the supplies out to students ASAP, or as soon as everything is sorted out and organized.
As for link crewm and this busy time, we have made nametags for every incoming freshman. I have helped design the t-shirts for link crew (for 8th grade day) and filled out the PO as well. Finally, for link crew we have been busy planning 8th grade day and have gone through the interview process and collected every applicant's application.
Within the class, I have completed my speech, portfolio pages, and all other work that was to be completed at the correct deadlines.
Standing Committee: I am involved in the Link crew at this time. I am also re-applying for the 2022-23 school year. I am also involved in renaissance (position assessment).
Special Committee: I am not currently in any special committees.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of meeting:
This past month(s), Gia and I have been able to talk quite a bit about leadership, etc. I really enjoy still talking to her in Medical Terminology every day, and I like hearing updates about her day, and how the soccer season is going. She is doing very well in leadership and we have both decided to run for Admin. Assistant for next year. We decided to take advantage of this convenient situation and make our posters together the Sunday before election week starts. On February 7th, I am planning to have both Gia and Sofia over for the day to make our posters, then go to the school to hang them up. I am very excited to get to spend time with Gia and Sofia in preparation for the stressful election week. Finally, I am planning to get lunch with Gia as well on February 2nd.
Concerns:
One concern I have for the Leadership class is that the class could go back to a very toxic place again as elections come up. I know that it can be very competitive and many students can get upset about the results of elections. This is a very stressful time and given the past, I am not sure how smoothly it will go.
Positive Comment:
I have two positive comments for this ASB meeting, my first one goes to Gia Grewal. She is my mentorship partner and I truly can’t believe how well she is doing in her first year. She is incredibly organized and always on top of everything she needs to get done. Gia is so smart and so patient with everyone she talks to. I have never heard one negative thing from Gia and I truly appreciate that about her. She has completed so much for her freshman class. During Winterfest, she was always one of the first ones there in the morning and she was always working so hard for her classes, winterfest, and soccer. I am so proud of Gia and all she has accomplished this year, and I can not wait to see what she is yet to accomplish during her time at Ripon High and in Leadership.
My second positive comment is for Gabbi Ilardi. Gabbi is my “elder” for Link Crew and Renaissance. She has been such an amazing instructor and mentor this whole year. I don’t know how I could have possibly done this job without her assistance. From dealing with impatient people to organizing every pin, R, and red/gold cards, Gabbi has proven time and again that she is a strong leader. Gabbi has helped me so much, and she is an incredible leader. She has been the best commissioner to be trained by I could have imagined.
Change: One change I would like to see would be more class discussions as long as they fit into the lesson/what we have time for. I always enjoy hearing from my classmates and being able to discuss as a class.
My Impact: I have changed the world today by trying to help some of the freshmen on the track team if they have any questions, or getting to know them. I have also changed the world by trying to pick up trash around campus as I walk by it to both help our school and the planet.

Posistion Assessment: Thus far into the quarter, I have been very busy with both Link Crew and Renaissance. The team and I finished planning and fully executed the 8th-grade welcome day. The day went pretty smoothly, although it was eye-opening to see the new class’ attitude. We got to school early to decorate the gym and welcome the 8th graders from each school. Groups led 8th graders around the school and they got to see many different areas and groups from the high school. The whole day went very well and we herd great feedback from teachers and principals from the elementary schools. However, after this event, I helped by starting the procedure form for the event and deligating the thank you cards thanking the principals of each elementary school and all of the teachers and staff members who helped run the event from Ripon High School. As for Renaissance, we sent out the forms and recieved many responses from the student body. We have begun to organize everyone’s awards, with some changes to how they are organized. This quarter, the team and I had to cut each corner fo the cards and write each student’s name on the cards too before passing them out. Unfortunately, we did run out of Block Rs, so the only mishap we have had has been having to order new Block Rs and resupplying them before the awards have to be distributed, which is ASAP.
Standing Committee: For standing committees, I am apart of Link Crew. I was a team leader for 8th grade welcome day. I think it went very well. I was able to talk to many students and I hope that everyone had a positive experience.
Special Committee: I am on the student committee for the planning of “the challenge”. I have contributed by working with my classmates on ideas for the students throughout the week and I have helped organize what needs to be done and what is yet to be done for the week that is approaching quickly. I helped present to Morty when she got back from her training and presentation.
Mentorship Evaluation: Gia and I have been doing great! After interviews, Gia and her sister came over to my house and we spent all day making our posters for our campaign. It was such a great time bonding and I really got to know Gia and her sister so much better. We spent lots of time together, and we were able to discuss leadership, school, friends, and everything else. In addition, Gia and I decided to go to lunch twice, once we went and the shop that we usually go to for lunch was closed, so we went to the corner store. It was a very fun experience and we definitely bonded in that sense. We talked a lot, and we met April back at the school when she was selling roses. It was very fun to do something spontaneous and exciting with Gia. The second time we went to lunch, Gia and I went before a track meet. It has been very exciting to see her grow as a student, athlete, leader, and person as we become closer. Being on the same track team and being able to talk everyday in Medical Terminology has been so great, and I am disappointed that I will not be in more of her classes next year.
Concerns: One concern I have is communication with Admin regarding Renaissance. This semester, we were thrown a curveball by having to add extra steps, and I hope that this will not become an issue for next year, when nobody is going to be returning to the posistion.
Positive Comment: One positive comment I have is for Gabby Melgarejo and Sofia Grewal. They have offered their help every day of the week that we have been working on Renaissance, and I truly appreciate their passion and dedication to the program that they will be incharge of next year. I look forward to helping them next year, but also watching them grow and lead the program to success. Getting Renaissance done as fast as it was would have been nearly impossible without their help.
Change: One change I would like to see would be more focused work days. I have noticed that sometimes during work days, people get off task and begin being loud and sometimes distracting when some people are trying to work and get things done efficiently.
My Impact: I have made a difference in the world today by offering to help watch a mom’s other kids when she had just given birth. She made such a difference in my life by watching me when my brother had just been born so I wanted to give back by offering a helping hand by watching her other kids, or just helping out with whatever she needed.

Link Crew & Renaissance Assissant
5/19/22
Position assessment: In the final months of leadership in the 2021/22 school year, Link crew and Renaissance have been able to end the year on a high note. We distributed all of the renaissance pins and cards to students/teachers’ boxes. Even though the situation with Block Rs has not been resolved and the Rs have not come yet, the program got everything else done and the rest or all we can do is in control of the company that we purchase them from. In addition to Renaissance being finalized, we had to plan and execute Study Buddy Night. This event really snuck up on us, but we were able to manage to organize it in time for the event. The event took place on May 16th and 17th in the library. We made social media posts, some of which could have been improved, but they were posted and Study Buddy Night started. Both nights we had quite a turnout of link crew leaders and a moderate amount of students who came to study. This was a good way to end the school year and lead into a week of stressful finals.
Standing Committee: I am a part of Link Crew at this time. Link crew participated in Study Buddy Night. I went to both nights and had a great time each night.
Special Committee: For my special committee, I was a part of the student committee for the challenge. I helped organize the student day events and the dance. I participated in Love Ripon one Saturday morning and shoveled bark at the different parks around Ripon.
Mentorship Evaluation/Completion at time of Meeting: Gia and I have been able to spend more time together in Med Term every day. I have come to trust Gia a lot, and I am glad I have been able to talk to her about numerous different things recently. We have gone to lunch before track. Unfortunately, the track season ended for us, so I haven’t been able to see her there. However, I still appreciate all of her support. Gia and I are very busy, but I am grateful that we had been able to talk each day at school! Finally, Gia and I attended a book club, the “Eat, Read, Share” event at the high school which was held in the library. We were able to talk in a formal, but relaxed setting as well!
Concerns that you would like addressed: One concern I would like to address would be the lack of communication during the dance. I know we have talked about this extensively about the pros and cons, but I think that we should address it so the same thing doesn’t happen during future events.
Positive comment: One positive comment would be for Naomi and the rest of the seniors. It was clear that putting on the dance was challenging, especially for her because most of the responsibility was thrown onto her. She put on a great event and it couldn’t have happened without her massive contributions.
Change: One change that I would like to see would be more ownership for different parts of events and a more understanding nature because everyone seems to be upset and tired so people get snappy by the end of the year.
My Impact: My impact recently has been more on the student body, I have been able to help by going to events like Study Buddy Night and helping my friends with homework outside of school. Being able to reach out to my classmates has really helped me connect with my school and hopefully help people feel a greater sense of belonging at Ripon High School. I have also worked at the recycling center for a club, but gI was able to give back and help my community!
